General Business As Degree < College Of The Desert

The Business - General program is specifically designed to prepare students to transfer to a four-year business school. The program allows students to transfer to a variety of business programs, including Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Management, or other business areas. It provides the fundamental knowledge necessary to be a successful business student with the ultimate goal of graduation from a business transfer institution and finding employment in the business field. This major is intended for business students who wish to gain breadth in skills and knowledge within their undergraduate studies. It is particularly appropriate for students who wish to combine a study of business with a minor or extended coursework in a non-business field. The general business major is also suitable for students who intend to pursue a specialized master’s degree in business or who are interested in law school or other professional fields.

Career Paths

Students choose classes from accounting, economics, finance and business law, information technology, management, marketing, occupational safety, and supply chain. During the course of their studies, students have the option of changing their major to specialize in a specific area or to remain in the general business major and graduate with a respected business degree from UW-Whitewater. A Safety and Risk Management emphasisis also available for the General Business major. We offer small classes, one-on-one interaction with a diverse faculty and a broad program across multiple business disciplines, including management, marketing and finance/economics.

The course acquaints students with a variety of supply chain management key concepts, to include purchasing, logistics, competitiveness, location, inventory, forecasting, layout, production and operations management concepts and techniques. Time Value of Money is applied to decision making in business and personal finance. Additionally, students learn common valuation techniques and financial planning.
